(KOPIUJ 1)

A cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Philosophy and History of the University of Lodz and the L’Institut Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris was signed in the (Polish) heart of the French capital – the Polish Library in Paris on 10 February 2025.

The goal of both institutions is to develop the humanities, including promoting the study of history through:

  • co-organisation of scientific events (conferences, lectures, workshops),
  • enabling researchers from Lodz to conduct research in Paris,
  • co-creation of publications.

The person responsible for the implementation of the contract on behalf of the University of Lodz is Dr Joanna Orzeł from the Institute of History of the University of Lodz, who has been cooperating for years with the Director of the L’Institut Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris, Prof. Maciej Forycki.

The agreement was signed on the eve of the opening of the international scientific conference entitled "La Confédération de Varsovie (1573) et la tolérance religieuse. Tolérance et exclusion en Europe du XVIe siècle à nos jours / Konfederacja warszawska (1573) i tolerancja religijna. Tolerancja i wykluczenie w Europie od XVI wieku po czasy współczesne". The main organisers of the event include L’Institut Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris, the Historical and Literary Society in Paris and the Centre de civilisation polonaise, while the co-organisers were the University of Lodz, the University of Opole, the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the University of Wrocław. The conference was held under the honorary patronage of the Poland’s Ambassador to France, Jan Emeryk Rościszewski, and co-financed from the funds of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The subject of the scientific conference aroused great interest among scientists: it was attended by over 30 researchers representing universities from eight European countries (France, Poland, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Ukraine, Hungary, Great Britain).

THE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

The organisers provided consecutive interpretation – both of the speeches and the discussions – thanks to which the deliberations were extremely lively. Two publications collecting the results of the scientific session are planned for 2027: the Polish version will be published in Warsaw, the French one – in Paris.

We hope that this is the first of many joint activities of the University of Lodz and the the L’Institut Bibliothèque Polonaise de Paris.
